Dr. Wixon joined Savannah Vascular Institute in 2000 and served as the practice’s President from 2011 to 2022.
Training:
Undergraduate: Franklin and Marshall College (Lancaster, PA) graduating with Honors in Physics and Math.
Medical School: Pennsylvania State University Hospital (Hershey, PA) where he participated in the artificial heart research program.
General Surgery Residency: The University of Eastern North Carolina (Greenville, NC), where he participated in the pioneering of Robotic-assisted mitral valve reconstructive surgery.
Vascular Surgery Residency: The University of Arizona (Tucson, AZ), where he published several seminal papers regarding dialysis access reconstruction and lower extremity bypass.
Visiting Professorship: The University of Utrecht (Netherlands) where he participated in seminal research pertaining to endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR).
Dr. Wixon has been a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of Vascular Surgery for greater than 20 years. He is a multi-year recipient of the annual Halsted Award for excellence in teaching and has served as an examiner for the Vascular Board of the American Board of Surgery.
He continues to have a keen interest in Lower Extremity Ischemia, Hemodialysis access, Endovascular Aneurysm Repair, and Carotid Artery disease. He continues to participate in clinical research projects, publishes in medical journals, and speaks at both vascular and database conferences.
Dr. Wixon is an active member of our medical community functioning as:

- Board of Directors member of Memorial Health University Medical Center.
Dr. Wixon maintains state Medical licensures in both Georgia and South Carolina and sees patients in the Bluffton, SC office.
